Molly & John | Then & Now

Molly is one of my favorite fellow redheads! She and her mom were a total joy to plan a wedding with and Molly and John’s wedding is actually still one of my favorites to date! I LOVED her venue, her colors and of course–her flowers! Molly and I keep in touch (but not nearly enough) and she was kind enough to send me an update–which I promised her I’d post on her 2 year anniversary–so here it is…Enjoy!

LIFE UPDATE:

How Long has it been since your wedding?
2 years today!

What is your best advice for brides-to-be?
Take risks and make your wedding a creative reflection of who you are.  We carefully pieced together each element of our wedding – from the venue to the food to the music to the details- so that it truly reflected what we care about most.  This resulted in us choosing a historic venue in our favorite neighborhood (Hyde Park), having live music all day long, and serving New Orleans food for dinner and creme brulee (instead of wedding cake) for dessert.  We sacrificed in other areas and included several DIY elements for this to happen.  Make your wedding your own.

What is your best memory from your wedding?
I am teacher and, at the time, was teaching the grandson of a Chicago jazz legend.  On a whim, I asked him if he thought his grandfather would be available to play at our wedding.  The grandfather agreed and put together a group of some of the most talented jazz musicians in Chicago to play with him.  It was an unbelievable surprise and continues to be our favorite memory of the day.  We also worked with some wonderful people (including Kristen!) who are still a part of our lives.

How IS married life? Any Advice for surviving the first year?
We’ve had a great two years. My only advice would to be to find a balance between time together and time alone to keep up with friendships, pursue hobbies, and maintain who you are as an individual.

Do you have any NEWS you want to share (pets, jobs, moves, babies, homes)?
We’ve traveled a lot and bought a condo that we’ve been rehabbing.
