I recently went on a field trip to the Ellwood House in DeKalb, Illinois (right down the street from my Alma Mater NIU). The Ellwood House is a historic mansion that was once owned by one of the inventors of barbed wire. It is a gorgeous home with beautiful architectural and decor details inside and out as well as a colorful history. In addition to the tour of the home there is also a Barbed Wire Museum and a room with historic vehicles. I loved visiting it with the people I volunteer with at Cantigny’s Robert R. McCormick Museum because they all share a similar interest/passion for history and the arts. I highly recommend this home tour!
This is one of my favorite little things on the tour–a 2-story playhouse that looks just like a real house!
