Bonaventure Cemetery

Who said graveyards weren’t fun to explore?! Well, whoever it was, they obviously have never been to Bonaventure Cemetery near Savannah. This place was huge, old and awesome! It is so interesting to see not only how people lived, but also how they died. We forget how many children died of now curable/extinct diseases and how many women died due to “complications with child birth” but it was a really common thing in the 1700, 1800 and even early 1900’s. It is also neat to see family plots and graves of famous/infamous people. Seldom now do you see such beautiful statues and monuments to loved ones passed. Here are some of my favorite gravestones from Bonaventure Cemetery…

I definitely recommend checking Bonaventure Cemetery out–its free (but you can buy a map for $2) and it is like nothing I have seen before!
