Black, Ivory and Red Blooms at White Pine State Park
Christina and Dan were married at Wedding Canyon with reception at White Pines State Park in Oregon, Illinois over Labor Day Weekend. Their colors were black, ivory and shades of dark red. It was a very mild day and just perfect weather for their awesome wedding!
For the personal flowers, we did a huge bouquet for Christina that had dahlias, callas, orchids, hydrangea and lily grass in it. The handle was wrapped in a patterned neck tie that Christina’s late father wore to his own wedding. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of white hydrangea, red orchids, callas, and stock with lily grass accents. The bouts and corsages were made of orchids, callas and spray roses.
The Ceremony decor was pretty much taken care of by the staff of Wedding Canyon as part of their package. I only added a memorial flower that sat in a seat for Christina’s late father, and I put 10 stems of red mokara orchids on every-other chair going down the aisle.
For the Reception decor, we went all out. We used my damask circle runners on all of the tables and on top of them sat the centerpieces. One style was a trio of submerged red flowers including callas, broad leaf mokara and James Story Mokara with floating candles on the top. The other style of centerpiece was a sculptural bubble bowl of callas and lily grass with a floating tea light holder inside. The cake was decorated with red flowers along with a vintage couple topper. The card holder was our rectangle bird cage with a floral piece, ribbons and a damask cards sign. The escort card/buffet table got a large manzanita tree arrangement with twig orbs, orchids, hanging votives and a floral base. It was so awesome!
We also did the paper products which included an awesome, totally unique escort card photo board. I asked the couple to send me some high-resolution photos of themselves out in nature. I took one of the best ones, turned it Black and White and then blew it up to 30 inches wide by 20 inches tall. I mounted it to foam core and printed a second version with the actual names on it and mounted that to cardstock. I cut out each card and mounted it to the backer board with a tack. I wrote the seating assignments on the back of the cards for the few guests that had assigned seating. The majority of the guests did not have assigned seating, but those who did sat at reserved family tables which I made cute damask signs for. I also made the favor holders which were bookmark sleeves with red ribbon for holding the Photo Booth strips.
Speaking of Photo Booths…Photo Booth Express totally delivered! I designed the bottom of the strips that printed out to have damask pattern on them and the couple’s names and wedding date. They looked super cute. I also suggested MDM Entertainment as the DJ, and Matt from MDM was awesome! And of course I suggested the photographer, Amy Christian of AC Design & Photography, who actually brought my other assistant, Tara Etrheim as her 2nd shooter. The couple, their families and guests had nothing but great things to say about the wedding and all of the vendors. They told me I should be a wedding planner since I did such a good job planning theirs! Lol. Funny…don’t worry, while I love giving advice and suggesting other fabulous vendors to my clients–I am not making a career change to wedding planner!!! Wedding planning helper maybe…!
I loved working on Christina and Dan’s wedding and it was a joy to attend it. Christina’s mom and step-dad are our dear friends and next-door neighbors so of course I was honored to do their event. Matt and I had such a nice time there and it was nice to be able to enjoy the day with everyone. There were so many fun and tender moments throughout the day and among my favorites were Dan’s huge smile as Christina walked down the aisle to him, Kevin’s speech/toast to the couple, Christina dancing with her older brother Patrick in honor of her dad…it was all so heart-warming!
Congrats to our friends Mr. and Mrs. Houghtaling!!
