Floral Design Class: Bouquets, Boutonnieres & Corsages

March 15, 2010

While preparing for tonight’s class on Bouquets, Boutonnieres & Corsages (also known as “Personal Flowers”) I came across a lot of great resources already available on the web. Here are some of the most helpful links below:

Here is my info packet for the lesson with key words to learn…

I think tonight’s lessons were the most complex to date. There is a lot to learn when making personal flowers including taping, wrapping, wiring, arranging in one hand, pinning, and perhaps one of the most challenging things to pickup, making bows…! One the whole, the bouquet was probably the easiest thing we did today as I noticed many of the students were struggling with the finishing techniques for the boutonnieres and corsages…particularly bow-making. I agree that bow-making could be a class all its own actually! But, just like riding a bike, once you get the hang of any of these skills, you will do it with ease. I work quickly and “make it look easy” but eventually it actually IS easy. Hang in there class…next week’s lesson of submerged and sculptural centerpieces will be WAY easier than this week!
